Our history

1964 - Creation of Thalgo by a pharmacist

A visionary pharmacist, André Bouclet was always passionate about the regenerating power of the sea. In 1964, he created Thalgo (a combination of “Thalassotherapy” and “Algae”), the first laboratory specialising in skincare products based on algae and marine extracts, intended for the medical world and thalassotherapy centres.

In 1966, he developed a unique algae micronisation method that ruptures the algae cell walls to release their contents, while preserving their wealth of active ingredients. The same year, he filed a medical patent for the combination of three micronised algae (Laminaria Digitata – Fucus Vesiculosus – Lithothamnium calcareum), prescribed for skin, rheumatic and circulatory disorders.

1976 - Thalgo is established on the French Riviera

In 1976, the Thalgo Laboratory was set up on the French Riviera and was inspired by its gentle lifestyle, energising light and colours to "envelop" its active ingredients in sensory fragrances and textures. The galenic forms evoke the sensory pleasures associated with the sea, while the fragrances, developed in Grasse, convey the freshness and luminosity of sun-kissed water.

Thalgo has always combined efficacy and well-being.

1999 - a new impetus!

In 1999, Jean-Claude Sirop, a visionary engineer, acquired Thalgo. The family business would be revitalised under his direction.

His son, Bernard Sirop, took the helm of the company in 2004. Together, they inspired the idea that performance should be at the heart of the brand's values. Within the space of a few years, Thalgo would develop in France and abroad to become the world leader in professional Marine Cosmetics.

Today over 12,000 professionals in Beauty Salons, Spas and Thalassotherapy Centres place their trust in us worldwide, including 500 hotel spas and 30 thalassotherapy centres.
