Dunaliella salina

Category :

Micro-alga - Green alga - Volvocales

Natural Habitat :

It is present in Africa, the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, but also in the Dead Sea and other oceans, seas and lakes that are both very salty and under conditions of strong sunlight and heat.

Harvest :

This mono-cellular alga is animated by two flagella which give it strong mobility. This miniscule organism has a length of 11µm and a width of 6µm and accumulates orangey-pink droplets, which give it its colour.

Components :

Organisms that are able to survive in salty conditions are rare. Their resistance to salt comes from a high concentration of carotenoids, which also protect them from light, and a high glycerol content. It is also rich in Vitamins C and E.

Biomass-Extracts-Properties :

Algae used for its extracts that are: - rich in carotenoids - rich in Vitamins C and E. In dietary supplements, this alga and its richness in beta-carotene allow it to acquire and maintain an even and glowing suntan all over the skin's surface, which is helped by the anti-oxidant action of the carotenoids and Vitamins C and E, which it contains in large quantities to prevent premature ageing of the skin. The beta-carotene transforms into retinol (Vitamin A) in the body and contributes to the rejuvenation and improvement of epidermal cells, prevents wrinkles and preserves the skin's suppleness. It limits the action of free-radicals on the skin and gives it a sun kissed glow.

Use :

Polynesia Lagoon Water Bath Pebbles, Ocea Sun and Ocea Skin Anti-Ageing nutritional supplements

Characteristics :

It gets its name from the Abbé Dunal, who studied these micro-algae in the 19th Century. It is the origin of the beautiful red-pink colour of Carmarguais salt marshes, but also the colour rose petals.
